Grilled and Steamed Artichoke Recipe

Serves: 4 to 6


  • 2 Large Artichokes
  • 3 Cups Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Bouillon (I recommend using bouillon for enhanced flavor)
  • 1 Lemon
  • 3 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 Stick of Butter (1/2 cup)


  1. Prepare the Artichokes: Begin by cutting each artichoke in half.
  2. Steam the Artichokes: In a large steamer pot, combine 3 cups of water with the vegetable bouillon. Place the artichokes in the steamer, cut side down. Cover and steam for about one hour, or until the artichokes are tender.
  3. Preheat the Grill: While the artichokes are steaming, get your BBQ grill heated up to a medium/high temperature.
  4. Prepare Garlic Butter Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic to the melted butter and cook briefly until fragrant. Be careful not to let the garlic burn.
  5. Grill the Artichokes: Once steamed and tender, brush the artichokes with a quarter of the garlic butter mixture. Place them on the grill, cut side down, and grill for about 2 minutes, or until they have nice grill marks.
  6. Serve with Lemon and Butter: Remove the artichokes from the grill and squeeze fresh lemon juice over them. Serve the grilled artichokes with the remaining garlic butter as a dipping sauce.
