Looking for an easy, natural, and cost-effective way to keep your garden blooming and producing all season long? Say hello to my monthly Plant Boost Juice! This DIY fertilizer tea is one of my favorite garden rituals—and it’s made with simple kitchen scraps you probably already have on hand: banana peels and used coffee grounds.
Whether you’re growing tomatoes, herbs, flowers, or leafy greens, this homemade plant food is packed with nutrients that support healthy, vibrant growth.
🍌 Why Banana Peels and Coffee Grounds?
Let’s break down the natural benefits:
-
Banana Peels are full of potassium, phosphorus, and calcium—all essential for strong stems, flower development, root health, and overall plant vitality.
-
Coffee Grounds are loaded with nitrogen, which promotes leafy green growth and helps improve soil structure.
By soaking both in water, we create a gentle, slow-release fertilizer that’s easy for plants to absorb.
🪴 How I Make My Monthly Plant Boost Juice
Here’s my go-to method that I’ve been using for seasons—and my garden absolutely loves it.
🌱 Ingredients:
-
4 banana peels
-
3 espresso-sized scoops of used coffee grounds
-
1 large bucket filled with water (5 gallons)
🥣 Instructions:
-
Add the banana peels and used coffee grounds to your bucket of water.
-
Let the mixture soak for 24 hours. This allows nutrients to infuse into the water (I like to keep it in the sun)
-
Strain out the solids (to avoid mold and pests).
-
Pour about 4 cups of the liquid around the base of each plant.
✅ Pro Tips:
-
Apply every 2-4 weeks, depending on your plants’ needs.
-
Don’t overdo it—especially with coffee grounds, which can build up acidity in the soil over time.
-
Use this on flowering plants, vegetables, herbs, and even fruit trees for a mid-season boost.
